Let's Chat Colour with Resene

Latitude Homes works alongside quality suppliers throughout New Zealand, from Resene through to Flooring Xtra, to MasterCraft Kitchens and so many more. We use our connections and buying power, to help build you a new home that you can enjoy and be assured, there’s no compromises on quality.

We’ve been chatting to Brenda from Resene about current paint trends and what colours she recommends.

The verdict is “For interiors it’s still very much a clean fresh white, as the main theme colour.” Statement colours coming though for NZ homes are a lot softer & gentle, the look and feel is light in energy, feeling at ease to be in, breezy and care free, but also a feeling of comfort and safety ,examples are;

  • Resene Double Blanc
  • Resene Half Pavlova
  • Resene Half Truffle
  • Resene Quarter Lemon Grass

Did you know that depending on the position of your property, your home will be more suited to warm or cool toned colours. “Cooler whites are generally perfect for interiors with large windows which means a lot of natural light coming in, also Interior’s that face North, these cooler off whites give grounding, defuse and calm down the brightness.”

COOLER WHITES RESENE RECOMMENDS ARE;

  • Resene Half Black White,
  • Resene Half Merino
  • Resene Half Sea Fog

When the desired look is minimal, streamline and contemporary, then warm whites are the answer. You can paint them on every interior surface, yes that includes ceilings. Warm toned whites, give a sharp fresh clean look and warmth all at the same time.

WARM WHITES RESENE RECOMMENDS ARE;

  • Resene Half Bianca
  • Resene Quarter Bianca
  • Resene Eighth Pearl Lusta

To complement the warm or cool whites you use in your home your next consideration would be lighting. Have you noticed how there’s different tones/temperatures with lights, yellowy warm tones or stark white light? Check out our blog about, what colour temperature is best for your home. You’ll find that different light temperatures are suited for different areas and help set the mood of a room, for example a lounge or bedroom don’t require as much light as a kitchen or bathroom.

WHAT ABOUT BOLD COLOUR?

If the Interior layout allows, choose a room or area that catches your eye, one that can handle bold colour! It could be a lounge or living room, or it might just be a statement wall in the bedroom. Have some fun with it! Not so sure? Grab a test pot from your local Resene ColorShop and paint a canvas and hang it on the wall you’re considering painting and see how it changes with the light throughout the day. Does it bring you joy? Then paint that wall!

TRENDING BOLD COLOURS FOR YOUR HOME

Blue tones are a popular colour for 2022. Blue can really change the mood of a room depending on if you go for a deep blue that exudes drama or a light blue that adds calm beachy vibes. Another trend is, autumnal tones, these work well paired with textures of wood and other natural fibres to add warmth to any room. Mixing of textures is something we’ve all embraced when styling our Latitude Showhomes, check out our showhomes for some inspiration.
